"Very nice find. It is the place to go when it comes to gin. A historical place for a pub, dates back very long (forgot how long) Food was good and served very quickly. Try the fudge as a desert too."
"Excellent pub with tasty food for a decent price (with London standards in mind) and an amazing service. I really enjoyed the fish and chips here. It also is a very good spot, if you are doing a bit of London tourism and want to avoid overcrowded and expensive places. Highly recommend! :)"
"The entrance corridor of this Grade II listed pub, with its glorious Victorian tiles and mosaics, really entices you in. Once inside you find a relatively small but light and airy gin palace, complete with glass roof. The pub’s history is quite confusing! The original pub on this site was called the Crown and Sugar Loaf, but was renamed the Punch Tavern in the 1840s after the satirical magazine “Punch”, whose editorial team used to drink here. It was rebuilt in the 1890s in two phases; the main part of the pub on Fleet Street in 1894–95, and then its Bride Lane frontage in 1896-97. The magazine closed down in the 1990s and, in the same decade, the Punch Tavern underwent its own radical change; an internal row resulted in the pub splitting in two, with the back half setting up its own business under the original name, the Crown and Sugarloaf. I said that it was confusing! This pub is a gem and the staff today were really friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit."
"Friendly welcome, clean venue and nice atmosphere. Real ale choice was limited to one beer, but these are difficult times for London pubs and the Hophead they had from Dark Star was fine. Everything felt professionally managed."
