Reviews
"Lovely cosy pub. Prices are not extortionate either. Dog friendly. Staff and customers very friendly"
"Been a couple of times with local friends who are regulars. Good local pub, geared for locals. Some of the reviewers here seem to have expected an O'neills or leprechauns dancing on the bar. It's really a working mans wet bar, with stools, tables and a bag of crisps if you're lucky. That's it. It's also usually pretty busy so don't expect to sit chewing the cud with 'Maggie'. Just enjoy your drinks and the sport on TV."
"Old school Irish pub...customers of all creeds, colours & generations chatting, laughing, storytelling, singing, reading, watching the football (either soccer or GAA) or the racing or just sitting down & enjoying a contemplative pint of porter which, on my numerous visits, is always in tip top condition...& keenly priced! Not many of these type of pubs remain compared to when I first came across to London in the late 80s...visit while you can."
"Being a second generation Irishman and big fan of down to earth, reasonably priced and non food led pubs, Im at pains to give such a bad review, but im afraid there is no other option. Considering the above, i was pretty pleased to find this bar in advance of Notting Hill Carnival, i thought it would be great to have a couple of pints after a train journey from SE London before heading into the Carnival. Well, i dont think i have ever felt less welcome in a bar, ever. By far the main reason was the old hag behind the bar, who i assume may well have been 'Maggie'. She eyed us frostily and suspiciously the moment me and the GF walked in, presumably thinking we only wanted to use the toilet. No, we want a pint, old Maggie. She eventually served us with a snarl, banging down the pints and offering no conversation at all. A bit perturbed by this, i tried to strike up a bit of conversation just to thaw the tension, when her card machine wouldnt work due to lack of reception. I very light heartedly suggested it might be due to the amount of people in the area due to carnival. She snapped back with some ferocity "ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT!". Ok, well it probably is love, thats how card machines work. The network is not communicating. But anyway, F chatting to you if you are going to be like that. She continued to glare at us whilst we drank our pints until we eventually left. Maybe she was on edge because it was carnival and probably gets people trying to use her toilet loads every year and not buy anything. I can understand that, id be annoyed too. But perhaps old Maggie could show a little bit of respect and hospitality to those who have come from afar to drink in the bar and keep the place going. The attitude and general hostility was far worse than even some i have encountered from those who lived through the troubles in Derry."
"Never went to this place before but last year was introduced to it for local meetings and have been back a few times since. Nice and quiet with friendly bar staff. They often show sports on the TVs. Very nice local and I would recommend a visit."
