"Really good museum, well worth a visit. An interesting mix of collections, both historical, cultural and natural. The aquarium in the lower levels is a real bonus too. Not always easy to park for free but there's nearby pay and display car parks. The area surrounding the museum is also a nice area of Bolton."
"I had heard about the aquarium and museum from friends who visited earlier, so thought about visiting when in Bolton.Went here with my family on a Saturday afternoon. Place was not much crowded even though it's free. The museum is located close to the market place. My son was pretty much excited to see the aquarium. The aquarium is small with limited fishes, but is still good to visit with kids. The museum has a very interesting Egyptian collection. The local section giving information about the history of Bolton is informative and is a must visit section. The museum has a small gift shop. Also the art section is pretty small. The building also has a library. The only problem when we visited was the lifts not working which could be an issue for people with mobility issues visiting the museum. Hope they fix this soon. Overall must visit place when in Bolton."
"Awesome experience. The library is at the entrance and on the upper floor is the museum and there is also an aquarium underground. If you need to know if it's possible to take photos then the answer is yes, you are allowed to take pictures. The library is massive with various genres of books and you have many spaces to sit down and read. The museum which is on the first floor is also great, with the history of Bolton and much other antique stuff. There is a separate hall with paintings and I think children can play there as I saw many building blocks and toys on the floor. Now the aquarium, there are many fish species to see and it's wonderful. I have uploaded some of my pictures. I hope you liked my review and found it useful. Thanks"
"This seems like a good idea and I suppose it is if you have a Saturday afternoon to fill and it’s still weeks until payday. It’s nice for a walk around as it is free. The art gallery to be fair is decent and I could have spent easily over an hour gazing at the paintings and art work. However, the aquarium is in need of some refurbishment. The Egyptian section is passable- you can tell they’ve spent money on it, but the Bolton’s history section could do with a bit more work. Could there be a few more interactive displays for the children and a few less stuffed animals?"
