"Unprofessional, Rude, and racist I had applied for a picker/packer position and was contacted by the hiring manager. She explained that they needed someone as soon as possible because due to someone going on maternity leave. The hiring manager asked if I was happy to come in for an interview and a “trial shift “ to which I agreed. I was told to come in at 9:30 , When I arrived I was given a paper to sign stating that I won’t be paid for the trial shift which I was completely fine with. There was some hostile energy but I ignored my intuition and continue with a smile on my face when being shown what to do by a member of staff. After two hours I got the hang of things and was packaging some orders when suddenly I heard a male voice screaming at the top of his lungs, he was using all kinds of unpleasant words towards a member of staff. I was shocked, disappointed and felt uncomfortable being there at that point. I asked a member of staff if I could speak to the hiring manager, I was told that she was “busy” and that someone else was going to come and speak to me. This other came to speak to me , she asked if I was happy with the place and asked me a few questions, things like: How many hours or days I wanted to work. I told her yes I was happy to continue because I was desperate to have a job and didn’t want to be unemployed . The lady then said to me that because they wanted to be “fair” they had one more candidate to come in for a trial, she told me that they would give me a call to inform me if I’ve gotten the job or not. To this day I’ve not been contacted by anyone. And today I saw that they had posted the same job on indeed , I guess the other lady the hired didn’t like it there either . What I learned from this whole situation is: A) listen to your gut feeling (intuition) B) Never try to stay in a workplace where a manager, boss or owner is being verbally abusive towards someone else because the next day it’s your turn."
