Reviews of Grouse & Claret
"Visited here last night for our wedding anniversary 20/01/2023, let’s start with the positives, we were met by a very friendly member of staff, we had a table in the conservatory the decor and layout is perfect, drink order was taken by a different member of staff who again was very friendly and very knowledge, so far so good and would be 5 ⭐️ at this point, but this is where things started to go down hill and why it’s only 1 ⭐️, food order taken by yet another member of staff not so friendly, I ordered the Chicken, cider and mushroom pie and my wife ordered the Feel good salad with added chicken, so sat waiting about 20 to 25 minutes for food, however, they were a little busy so okay, but when the food arrived the pie pastry was extremely hard and quite burnt and the chips were barely warm, now the salad with added chicken was certainly lacking in quantity and quality see photo… and I think you would agree at £15 the amount you get is shocking, I could get the same quantity and quality buying a prepackaged version from Aldi for £2.95, we finished our meals and sat waiting for the table to be cleared ready to order desserts, but again sat waiting a longer than expected for the table to be cleared, so in the end just asked for the bill and we left, it wasn’t the anniversary evening out we were expecting and to say we were little disappointed is an under statement, however back to a positive the refurbishment work is to a high standard and the welcome you get when you arrive is great, they just need to work on other areas to make it the pleasurable experience it should be."
"Warm and pleasant atmosphere in the pub. All the other family had excellent meals but not the roast for two of us, The beef was as tough as leather boots. I had to ask for a steak knife but no question as to why. We had great service up until getting our food and then no one returned to ask us about how the meal was or if we wanted any condiments. The pub was not busy so no excuse. I had to get out of my seat to collar a waitress to ask for a steak knife and sauce to accompany the children's meals."
"Lovely little pub but unfortunately the service let it down on this occasion. Waited at the bar for our first drink for quite a while despite there being no other customers at the bar. No apology for the wait or any of the usual niceties. To be fair it looked like they were training a new member of staff. However, it would have been nice if they had at least acknowledged we were there or apologised for the wait. The second time at the bar it was a different lady and to be honest I thought she was rude, no smile or pleasantries.. the gin didn’t have so much as a slice of lime in the second time and when I asked for a straw she said yes but then proceeded to serve the next customer and leave me standing there waiting until I asked the guy learning who just stood there too looking rather lost. The food was nice pub grub though. I would visit again but hope for friendlier service."
"Came here for my graduation meal. Everyone enjoyed the food. It was absolutely amazing. Service was excellent and quick. No issues will definitely dine here again"
"We stayed here for 2 nights late January and its location is ideal for a quite nights stay. Very pretty area, next door to small shopping village and a nature reserve on one side. A lovely sounding river on the other side and a camp site behind. The pub itself is nice, staff are lovely and the food is ok too. No real issues. The room was ok too. Nothing special or luxurious but it's clean and tidy with all WE need in it. Recommended if your in the area. The pics are 2 from the room and 2 of the grounds of the Inn."
