Reviews of Ponchokhana পঞ্চখানা
"This restaurant is located near Whitechapel subway. One can get authentic Bangladeshi dishes here. We tried Shrimp bhuna, Boal fish bhuna and Fish bortha. Taste was okay but oil was too much, I felt like I was drinking oil. For the money spent on the dishes, the quantity was sufficient for more than 2 people. I would suggest someone to try less oily dishes."
"One of my worst experience. Just wanted to explore new Bangladeshi restaurants as I’m new in UK and this was my third visit to London. We ordered total 5 items and asked for single portion for each as we were only 2 person. When they served the we asked them again whether it’s a single portion or not and they reassured that it is. But later we got the bill for full portion. Also they don’t have all the cooked items in the menu so make sure you ask them the price when ordering otherwise they will charge you more. The worst part is two of the dish tasted spoiled so we asked them to change it but they denied it and told us that they can’t do it. Specially the Daal was cooked atleast couple of days earlier and once they heated the odour was so foul that anyone can tell that it has a “bashi” pungent taste. This is the first time my wife has got loose stomach in last 8 months in UK. We are thinking to complain to the authorities."
"Food quality was very poor. Among four dishes two of the ordered curry dishes were stale, was sour in taste, wasn't in good condition to surve at all. They all were probably precooked a long time ago and just warmed and gurnished with coriander before surving.Upon complaining that the food is not safe to eat and already became stale and sour, they keep insisted on having them and keep saying that they were good and won't take it return. This is related to health safety issue. We haven't eaten those two dishes.but just with doing a little taste ,I had developed tummy pain and bloating just immediately after eating those food. I will never recommend to go to that restaurant again."
"I mean I get it. They have good food but they should have been honest about their pricing of their food. I had a few issues and I want to point them out. 1. I asked for a normal 7up but they gave me a citrus one which is different from the regular one. 2. Their mashed eggplant (Begun bhorta) smells like it was made few days ago. I almost throw up by tasting it. 3. The price they have on the price chart are worng or they won't charge you according to the price chart. 4. They didn't have any physical menu. 5. Cutlery was really dirty. 6. They will probably ask for cash payment. As they asked me. So except these I didn't have any issues. I will probably never visit them again. But I enjoyed their other dishes. And It has very local Bengali vibes. The food is all Bengali. Most people were nice. But not the one who was making our bills."
"If you want to have a taste and feel of bangladesh then this place is for you. Talking about the deco and food. Its not 5 star place but its typical bangladeshi palce. So when i went there, i knew food and deco would be like back home. Food was really nice, especially the tea. I don't normally like sweet tea but it was prepared nice. Would come back again."
