"The first rule of Homeboys pizza is that we don’t talk about Homeboys pizza. I had my doubts given the overwhelmingly positive reviews and word of mouth on the Manchester pizza scene (yes, there is one. No, you can’t ask to join. You have to be invited) I was sceptical. There’s no dearth of good Neapolitan style pizza in Manchester. After a while you’re making a decision on where to eat based more on the choice of negronis or craft beer rather than the dough. It was getting to the point where I was reaching a state of pizza fatigue. Enter Homeboys pizza. Rather than slavishly adhering to the precepts of Neapolitan style pizza, they blend in sourdough technique with New York style toppings and a bit of olive oil for crispness on the cornicone. The result is a glorious melange of mouth watering goodness. The fact that there aren’t people queuing around the corner is a surprise to me. While it’s not wood fired pizza, it was worth travelling all the way from South Manchester to try. This is not going to date well, but their pizza is the perfect thing to scarf while rewatching The Bear. Remember that the second rule of Homeboys is that you always ask for dip on your first order. Don’t forget to tip."
