New Horizons Women's Care - Queen Creek

"The front desk at this location was very friendly and hospitable! I saw Cristina Diaz for my new OB appointment. I went to this office hoping to find a provider that would support a VBAC. Cristina was very friendly and supportive of the idea. She said that their office had been successful in many VBACS. She also made sure to tell me the many things that can go wrong with attempting one. She said that their office typically schedules a C-Section at 41 weeks. She said that they’ll “LET” me go another week past my due date. I’m sorry, but you don’t “let” me do things, I let you do things. This was a warning sign to me that the people delivering MY baby thought they’d have more control over the decisions regarding delivery than I would as the mother. When I called to schedule the appointment (I’m self pay) I was told that the New OB appointment would be $200 and that there would also be lab work. I was told that the lab work would be done in house and around $200. At the appointment I found out that they actually use Sonora Quest (which makes sense but isn’t what I was told). A couple weeks after my blood was drawn for the labs I got a bill from Sonora Quest for almost $700. I approached Sonora Quest and was informed that this was the agreed upon price between Sonora Quest and this office for these standard labs. Upon receiving the results of my labs it was discovered that I had a UTI. I got a friendly phone call from their office with the results, and was prescribed an antibiotic. I picked up the antibiotic from the pharmacy and intended to use it when I thought, “I wonder if there’s a way to do this naturally so I can avoid the antibiotic.” I called the NH office and asked (I think it was an MA) if there was a natural alternative to the antibiotic. She said, “no, the antibiotic is the only option, and if you don’t take it you can go into preterm labor.” I said okay, and asked a different source, a group of midwives. The midwives at Aurora Midwifery said, ”Hi Mira! Options we usually recommend to our clients for natural UTI treatment are d-mannose with cranactin, increase fluid intake, and high dose vitamin C to boost your immune system. If things don’t clear within a few days or symptoms increase, antibiotics might be necessary. We hope you’re feeling better soon and that you can avoid the antibiotics! Best wishes -Alyssa” I followed Alyssa at Aurora Midwifery’s advice and a couple days later took an at home UTI test. My UTI test came back negative! I have not yet gone into preterm labor, and my UTI is gone without having taken any antibiotics! Moral of the story: New Horizon’s Women’s care tried some scare tactics which failed on me. They don’t seem to want the mother to know she’s in charge of her labor and delivery. I only went to one appointment with New Horizons and they were very friendly. If I didn’t know what to look for and ask questions, I might still be in their care. It’s one thing to keep a patient informed of possible outcomes, it’s another to say it’s my way or the highway."
