Denny Chimes
Denny Chimes is a historic institution located at 739 University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States. The institution holds a special place in the hearts of students and alumni of the University of Alabama, as it was built in honor of former university president Dr. George H. Denny in 1929. Standing at 115 feet tall, the campanile houses a carillon of 25 brass bells that ring out various melodies, including the school fight song and the alma mater. The chimes also play patriotic songs and memorial tributes, making it a cherished symbol of the university's spirit and traditions. The University of Alabama's football team, known as the Crimson Tide, has a rich history that dates back to 1907 when a sports editor referred to the team as such after a muddy game against Auburn. The team's mascot, an elephant named Big Al, was officially introduced at the 1979 Sugar Bowl and has since become an iconic symbol of school pride.
