"When our small company (less than 12 employees) switched payroll to Pay Magic in late April, I found out why companies don't switch mid-quarter. And Pay Magic should have known better! Pay Magic asked me for reports from our prior payroll company. I thought I was going to hand over the reports and they would do the work at their office. NO, she spent 2 hours in my office doing the work. After learning from the Pay Magic fiasco, we switched to Payroll Partners and they handled everything remotely. A few emails and some short phone conversations and we were getting the work done right at a lower price point. The first payroll with Pay Magic was a nightmare. I was greeted at the door by a few employees because the direct deposit didn't hit anyone's account. Pay Magic told me to check with our banks and see why the direct deposit didn't happen. It took Pay Magic / Accountants World all day to figure out what they did wrong -- or to admit they were responsible for the problem. Eventually all employees were actually paid around 5 PM. All along they acted as if it was our fault the deposits didn't hit multiple accounts at multiple banks. This was only the beginning. I spent hours each payroll to be sure the taxes were right. Error after error, I was told the software did something to cause the issue. Whether taking Ohio tax for someone who lives in Indiana, not calculating taxes at all and an employee could have received the gross amount if not caught by us, or some other obvious error. FUTA and SUTA taxes that were supposed to be paid 2nd quarter weren't paid correctly and we asked Pay Magic to fix it 3rd quarter since the 2nd quarter was wrong. Our processor filed 3rd quarter reports and told me 3rd quarter is done and my new payroll company can handle fixing the errors made by Pay Magic. It doesn't stop there, Accountants World took funds to pay Ohio tax that was not owed. After we cancelled their services. We had to issue a stop payment to prevent them from attempting to take the funds a 3rd time. Our new payroll company then informed me that the Indiana tax hasn't been paid since April. The funds were taken from the company but were not put in the correct account for our company. Pay Magic had our old reports with the account number, but used the wrong account. And they will not help fix the problem. It might be better that way - the new company will get it right! Don't use Pay Magic for payroll processing unless you want your taxes applied to the wrong account, people to not get paid correctly, someone to blame you for all their mistakes, and the need to use a new payroll company to clean up the mess. Use Payroll Partners - they do their job correctly and I have gained at least a day back per payroll period. I no longer have to check every payroll in detail, identify the mistakes and hound someone to fix mistakes - we just run payroll and move on now!"
