Welcome to Chassell Ski Trails

Nestled in the picturesque town of Chassell, Michigan, the Chassell Ski Trails offer a serene escape into nature, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and fitness lovers alike. Our well-maintained park features a variety of trails for classic cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking, providing a rich experience for all ages and skill levels.

Trail Enhancements and Community Support

Thanks to the generous support of the Keweenaw Community Foundation through its PHF Outdoor Wellness & Recreation Fund Grant, our trails are now equipped with comprehensive trailhead signage. These 3′ x 4′ signs are strategically placed at the Heritage Center, the old ice rink, Marinette Street, and Archambeau Road, ensuring that visitors have clear guidance throughout their adventure. Additionally, 18″ x 24″ signs mark the 2k and 5k cutoffs, as well as the Nature Trail access point south of the cemetery.

The trail mapping project was a collaborative effort involving MTU's Director of Research Computing, Gowtham, and local community members including Jim Tervo, Jay Fedorocko, and Keith and Julie Meyers. The signage, printed by Copper Island Printing in Calumet, incorporates GPS data to enhance navigation and safety, with the help of Joe Youngman and Cole Smith from the Chassell DPW.

Trail Use and Safety Guidelines

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please adhere to the following guidelines:

- During winter, the ski trails are groomed specifically for classic skiing and are not open for walking or snowshoeing. However, dedicated snowshoe trails are available and clearly marked.

- Ski in a counterclockwise direction only, as skiing clockwise can be hazardous.

- Follow all posted rules and guidelines for winter use, available at trailheads.

Fitness Stations and Wellness Opportunities

In addition to our scenic trails, we have incorporated fitness stations to promote personal wellness and fitness.
