Dr. Ruter joined Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute in 2017, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a passion for keeping people active. As a former track and field athlete at Saint Joseph’s College, he understands the importance of mobility and strives to help his patients maintain an active lifestyle.
Raised in Forreston, Illinois, Dr. Ruter was inspired by his father's dedication to patient care. He pursued his education at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and furthered his expertise at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Ohio. His surgical residency in rearfoot reconstruction was completed at Midwestern University and Franciscan Alliance in Dyer, Indiana. Additionally, he completed a fellowship at Indiana Foot & Ankle in Jasper, Indiana, focusing on diabetic nerve care, limb salvage, and reconstruction.
As a faculty and board member of The Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons (AENS), Dr. Ruter is highly qualified to diagnose and treat lower extremity nerve conditions. He is committed to providing expert care and education in this specialized field.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Ruter enjoys spending quality time with his family and indulging in outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, kayaking, and jeep rides.

"Dr. Ruter Entered the exam room. Very polite & apologies for the wait. Which I didn't feel the wait was excessive. But I appreciated his thoughtfulness. Dr. Ruter asked a lot of questions & he really listened to my answers & concerns. My foot, ankle & calf issue has been a problem for quite awhile. I've seen 2 specialist already & no luck. After a thorough exam Dr. Ruter expressed a plan of action to find & treat my problem. He gave me an ultrasound guided injection near a nerve in my leg. He was great giving this injection. I felt no pain. I have to return in 4 weeks. I'm hopeful that Dr. Ruter will get to the root of my problem. I highly recommend Dr. Ruter. I wasn't too impressed with his nurse or physician assistant. I felt rushed by them & didn't feel that they were hearing what I was saying. But everyone is allowed to have an off day so it didnt detour me. I went to get treatment from Dr. Ruter & that was a big success!! So I'm happy with my choice to see Dr. Ruter."
