About the Business

Griffith Train Museum

Welcome to the Griffith Train Museum, a captivating journey through the rich railroad history of Griffith, Indiana. Nestled in the heart of "The Town that Came to the Tracks," our museum stands as a testament to the powerful legacy of railways that have shaped not just our town, but the entire nation. Located at Griffith Historical Park, 201 S. Broad Street, Griffith, Indiana 46319, our museum is a must-visit tourist attraction for history buffs and families alike.

Indiana, known as "The Crossroads of America," has long been a hub of rail activity, and Griffith played a pivotal role in this vibrant network. At the museum, you'll explore the historic Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railway Interlocking Tower, which skillfully managed rail and automotive traffic for over 75 years. Step inside the beautifully renovated Grand Trunk Depot Museum, where since 1981, we've been dedicated to preserving and showcasing the town's rich railroad heritage.

Our park is a lively destination, perfect for a sunny day adventure. Adjacent to the Erie Lackawana Trail, it invites cyclists and pedestrians to explore where trains once thundered through. Marvel at the three iconic locomotives on display—the EL T-197, the Pullman, and the stunning EJ&E 503. Be sure to admire the vibrant mural celebrating the EJ&E 503, emblazoned with a warm "Welcome to Griffith."

Whether you're traversing the Erie Lackawana Trail or exploring downtown Griffith, make your way to the Griffith Train Museum, where the echoes of the past meet the pulse of modern railways. Discover how our region, "Built by Steel and Moved by Rails," continues to drive America forward. Visit us today and immerse yourself in the enduring legacy of Griffith's railroads. "I see this place all the time while stuck by a train in front of it and my phone is always asking for a review so here it is. Plenty of public parking across the street along with one of the big bike trails that goes all the way to Crown Point. There are a couple cars and caboose to look at, I'm not sure if you can go in them but probably not. There is A LOT of train traffic at this railroad crossing so if you want to see or take pictures of trains this is a great location for that. However due to the number of trains I wouldn't recommend bringing young children here and if you do keep a very close eye on them. Overall it looks like a nice little stop if you like trains and maybe one day while waiting for 3 trains on a row on my way home from work I'll get out of my vehicle and check the place out."
