Welcome to the Washington Township Fire Department Station, a cornerstone of community safety and service since its inception. Located at 441 Hurffville Grenloch Road, Washington Township, New Jersey, our fire station is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of our residents through exceptional firefighting, rescue, and emergency services.
Our History
The origins of our fire department trace back to February 16, 1922, when the Grenloch Fire Company was first organized in the basement of the Grenloch Presbyterian Church. From humble beginnings — including a converted commercial truck serving as our first fire apparatus — we have grown into a well-equipped and highly trained firefighting force. Our rich history is marked by resilience and dedication, having overcome challenges such as the devastating fire of 1973 that nearly crippled our operations. Thanks to the unwavering support from our community and neighboring fire companies, we successfully rebuilt and continued our mission.
Our Facilities
Our main station, completed in 1962, boasts a three-bay firehouse with a meeting room and kitchen, designed to accommodate the needs of our growing community. In response to the evolving demands for fire services, we expanded with a substation at Greentree & Hurffville Roads, dedicated in 1975, which houses our first ladder truck — an Imperial with a 100-foot ladder, the first of its kind in Washington Township.
Community Involvement
Throughout our history, community support has been vital. Our fundraising efforts, including bingo nights initiated in the 1960s, have played a crucial role in financing our operations and expansions. We remain committed to engaging with and supporting our community through various events and initiatives, reinforcing the bond between our department and the residents we serve.
