"I was referred to the police department for some routine fingerprinting work. I found the officers outstanding. Also, in following the detective sergeant, there was an amazing dog called "Coach." The folks were extremely professional, helpful and really deserve 6 out of 5!"
"I have several encounters with public safety, as was told by colleagues and profs that this dept could help with safety issues especially after-hour concerns and they basically are like a police office. The essence of their work, however, isn't really about your safety unless it's on a very specific protocol or by request of some university program. I now would rather risk my safety than make any conversation with them ever again. The dispatchers and decision makers run with the capability of white-collar neophytes and the arrogance of a homeland-level police office. Ironically, the school doesn't seem to share much of the database with this dept, or they just don't bother to know much. You sometimes need to go a long way to explain which part of the university you belong to, or where a school bus stop is, while being frequently and condescendingly talked over. If not dealing with things like crimes or building alarms, they probably wouldn't even do better than a pure-purposed student-run care group, which Princeton can consider establishing as this public safety is so reluctant to work on "miscellaneous safety". The two stars go to the officers who actually run around the campus all the time and warmly help people with all sorts of things from jump starts to emergency leaks."
