Welcome to Harville House: A Historic Gem in Statesboro, Georgia

Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of Bulloch County, Harville House stands as a testament to Georgia's rich architectural and cultural heritage. Located at 1950 Harville Road, Statesboro, Georgia, this historic landmark has been captivating visitors and locals alike since 1894. Originally purchased by Samuel Winkler Harville in 1862, the property has a storied past that echoes through its walls and surrounding grounds.

Harville House was constructed by Samuel's son, Henry Keebler Harville, as a one-story home in 1894. A decade later, the second story was added, creating a sprawling 14-room residence that accommodated the growing Harville family. The house showcases vernacular architectural features inspired by a dream of Keebler Harville, with timber sourced directly from the farm’s land. By the time of Keebler's passing in 1946, the farm had expanded to 2800 acres, serving as a self-sustaining hub for ten families, complete with a grist mill, sawmill, cotton gin, and more.

Over the years, Harville House has become a symbol of the area's history and resilience. Although it fell into disrepair and gained a reputation as the "Haunted House" in the 1970s, efforts are underway to restore its former glory. The Bulloch County Historical Society, with support from the Jack N. and Addie D. Averitt Foundation, placed a historical marker on the property in 2013, highlighting its significance.

Today, Harville descendants are working diligently to explore restoration options. The house remains on private property and can be admired from the road, offering a glimpse into its storied past. Visitors are encouraged to respect the privacy of the owners while appreciating the house’s historical value.

Harville House is more than just a relic of the past; it’s a beloved part of Bulloch County's heritage.
