Reviews
"Unbelievable. Just like Arlington. So well kept. Rip our fallen heros."
"Out here in the middle of quiet Illinois cornfields and river bottoms is something out of Arlington, VA. Dignified rows of marble, monuments and well maintained grounds, surrounded by brick and wrought iron fence, our military dead rest in peace. There is even a small obelisk dedicated for Confederate dead here. This is a solemn space."
"We saw a write-up in one of their local newspapers about the museum being on the property here and seeing the graves of the unnamed soldiers and it specifically talked about one grave in particular that is simply marked Confederate spy. So we came here to check these things out. Even though we were here during the hours they had posted the museum was closed. One of the groundskeepers says that the lady that runs it is on vacation but then later in my conversation with this person he said that the museum is now in the downtown area and no longer on the ground. We also asked him about the tombstone that is supposed to say Confederate spy and there is no such thing."
"Lived age 4-14 in Mound City. Rode or drove past cemetery frequently even rode school bus by cemetery daily when in High School. And briefly dated girl whose father was resident care taker. Inspired sense of honor and respect. After Army Office in Charge of at least a dozen veteran funerals while I was in Army, I learned more respect for Veteran Cemeteries. Mound City Veteran Cemetery is quiet and remote enough to maintain peace. I look forward to centuries my corpse rests in Mound City National Veteran's Cemetery."
"I am Carolyn A Reed Brown and My Great Great Grandfather William Wright was brought wounded down river on a boat to the military hospital located outside of the Cemetery in the village of Mounds. there was a measle outbreak & he died 2-16-1863. The weather was too bad to get his body home so he is buried in the Military Cemetery. We have gone for years and other cousins also go to his grave. It is beautiful & peaceful."
