Officially recognized in 1882, the department has grown to a robust team of 137 employees, including 135 dedicated firefighters and 2 civilian staff members. With seven strategically positioned stations throughout Davenport, our team is ready to respond to over 19,000 emergency incidents annually, including structure fires, emergency medical calls, hazardous materials situations, technical rescues, and citizen assists.

Our department is equipped with eight engine companies and three truck companies, ensuring rapid response times and comprehensive emergency coverage. We are particularly proud of our prevention programs, which include public education for all ages and annual commercial business inspections to identify potential safety concerns and fire hazards.

With a prestigious Class 2/2X Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating, the Davenport Fire Department ranks in the top 5% nationwide, reflecting our commitment to excellence in fire protection services. Furthermore, we are an Accredited Agency with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), a testament to our dedication to providing the highest quality service and continuously planning for the future.

Our training division is instrumental in maintaining our high standards. Located at 1200 E 46th Street, our training center offers over 16,000 documented training hours annually, including fire suppression, emergency medical training, technical rescue, and OSHA compliance. New recruits undergo an intensive academy to earn State of Iowa certifications, ensuring they are fully prepared to serve the community.

Every Davenport firefighter is cross-trained in Emergency Medical Services, with many reaching paramedic level. This cross-training enables them to administer life-saving techniques swiftly, particularly within the critical four-minute window necessary to prevent permanent injury or death during medical emergencies.
