"We live in our RV full time traveling all over and recently had to travel back to our home base of Savannah for my husband to have foot surgery. When looking for someplace to stay 6 to 8 months for his surgery and recovery it became quite a challenge. Beginning in Savannah and gradually working out, the closest place we could find to stay was in Baxley, GA - 2 hours away! Thinking this was going to be a nightmare due to how far away and all the trips we would be making back and forth, we made the reservation at Shady Pines RV Park. We couldn’t have been more wrong about our initial response!! The owners, Edwin and Windy Spell, could not have been any kinder, accommodating or nicer in any way. We were the only guests when we arrived and had the choice of any of the current 10 spots in the park - they are hoping to add some additional sites in the near future. We continued to be the only guests for the majority of our time there; however, there were other guests staying as they traveled through the area and we had a month with all of the other spots filled with workers coming in for the shutdown of the plant located nearby. Even at full capacity, the park was still peaceful with plenty of space between sites. While there aren’t any amenities (which we seldom if ever use) with the exception of a laundry room provided to guests at no additional charge it is a little slice of heaven for enjoying peace and tranquility. Baxley is a small farming community, but has some enjoyable attractions in the area. Some of these include Watermelon Creek Vinyards in nearby Glennville, the Claxton Fruit Cake Company in Claxton and Vidalia the Sweet Onion Capital just a short jaunt away. As it turned out, we didn’t have to make as many trips to Savannah as we had originally thought. My husband was able to have his surgery at the hospital in Reidsville, a short 30 minute drive away, and follow-up visits in Statesboro, half the distance of Savannah. On those few trips back to Savannah and we rode by the parks we had wanted to stay we were so happy they weren’t able to accommodate us. They were much more expensive and the guests crowded into much smaller spots. While tight quarters are fine for short stays, they can be very trying when being there for an extended period. We could not have found a better place to stay. We highly recommend you plan a stay when passing through or just looking for a place to get away and just enjoy some time to yourself. While we were ready to get back on our way, we were sad to leave such a great place and such wonderful people. But now it is time for us to find Another Mile Marker!"
