"We recently purchased a home through Clayton Homes of Rome and they have been nothing short of wonderful. Our sales rep, Bob Barlow, has always been forthcoming with us and adequately prepared us for what to expect and walked us through the process step by step. He is always very personable and even works wonderfully with our autistic son, which means so much to us. The price he quoted us initially remained true all the way through closing and he helped us get the exact house we wanted with the specifications and changes we needed. He and John did a wonderful job of explaining what was included and what we were paying for, what to expect, and they’ve really taken extra time with us for being first time home buyers. The process has been very smooth, the timeline given has been accurate, the price was exactly what we were told, and the financing has been extremely easy! I’d recommend them over and over again!"

"My husband and I loved the homes we saw and their overall process. However, our Sales Rep, Bob was terrible. Every time we had to correspond with him, written or via phone... he would ignore the question, respond with 1 word emails, and only worked on his time, when it suited. Our experience, he was lazy, disorganized, and had extremely poor communication. He kept pushing to sell us a home that didn't fit our needs and was more expensive. He couldn't bother to answer important questions about the specific homes and their differences. When we did find a home that worked, and sent in our credentials, HE LOST THEM MULTIPLE TIMES... Then, when we cancelled the home and requested our deposit back, frankly because we didn't want to work with him through the rest of the process. And he DIDN'T CANCEL the home, until 2 weeks later (after emailing and calling him multiple times with no answer). When he finally ordered the refund check, it came in WITH THE WRONG NAME and the wrong address on it. We drove an hour to get there to pick up the check and then after all that, he laughed and said "oh well, might work still"! Overall, I liked Clayton Homes but if you get paired with Bob in the Rome, GA office, I'd request another Sales Rep...at least one who can communicate properly and is at least a little organized...especially when you're buying a home."

"They scammed us. They royally effed us. And they will scam you too. We picked out a house we liked back in August 2023. It was on sale for a limited time - great, but a little too soon for when we were going to be moving. Caroline told us that if we ordered it now, our sale price would be locked in. Great! We ordered it. We got no carpet, heated floors, extra thick walls, etc … tailored our home to exactly how we needed it, and were securely within budget. We waited all winter in a rental for this home to be built. Finally it came to the lot, and it was time to close. In walks this man I have never seen before, and the paperwork he brought with him had an additional $10,000+ tacked on that neither he nor Caroline had any good explanation for. He denied that the August sale ever happened. He told us that any talks of numbers we had with his staff previously were meaningless because he was the one who approved the deal. When we showed him the order sheet with the original numbers and how they didn’t match up to what he was trying to get us to sign, he just didn’t care. In fact, he tried to argue that he was the one giving us a deal. We wanted our house. We wanted our agreement honored. Any good business owner would have done that. Instead John told us we were finished here. He said our deposit would be coming back to us in the mail. That there would be no negotiation. We were left with nothing after wasting all winter waiting for our home. For all of his talk of caring for customers, John would have seen us be homeless - our time in the rental was running out. Instead of honoring the numbers we had all agreed on back in August, he will take our custom ordered home and sell it to the highest bidder. And he will get away with it because he and his people run a scam bait and switch. Don’t come here. Don’t trust these people. I did, and got burned big time. I can’t believe sales people like this still exist. There are other companies out there that will actually honor their word. We are working with one right now, and the difference is night and day. Finally I see how smoothly the process is meant to go. Clayton Homes of Rome doesn’t deserve your business. They don’t deserve your time. I hope that ultimately, you avoid an experience like we had and go somewhere else. *also if you see this, know that for every bad review, they generate more positive reviews to bring up the rating and bump the negative ones down. They also get staff to do fake reviews on the business. A quick research on the Better Business Bureau revealed that this place had over 300 complaints last year alone!!"

"Buyers BEWARE! ***Long review but worth reading if out considering buying a home here! *** If I could give Clayton Homes of Rome and the employees there no stars I would. I do not often write reviews but everyone needs to know how much of a Robbery this place truly is. This was going to be an ALL CASH DEAL. My family and I put down a $1,000 deposit on a home in August. We were told by doing so that would lock in the lot sale price as well as the price ordering a new home ($124,000). We were also told that by doing an all cash deal they would take $2,000 off the price of the home making it $122,000. We then talk with Caroline ( who is very nice, but now looking back seems clueless as her replies were always let me check and get back with you) to order our home with upgrades that she quoted us and put a total of $10,000 down to get it ordered. 7 months later- which is 3 months later then we were told the house would be in- we go to do an inspection of the home that we were told was part of the process. John- the GM sent us to a dirty lot about 15 minutes a down the road with a screw driver- IT DID NOT WORK! Upon returning to finalize the home after going over the numbers not only did they neglect the sale price, they did not honor the $2,000 off that was promised by Caroline and Bob. John went around and around adding numbers in different places on different things to make the number be what HE wanted. He added $2600 on for an electric fireplace that came in the base model!!! John said to our faces that the numbers the sales associates go over are not final until he does the closing. He will make the numbers what he needs them to be. He is nothing but a liar, manipulative scum bag that is not there for anyone but himself. Oh and not to mention he is a coward and never speaks on the phone or in the office when you go by. I’m sure several others have had numbers added to their totals with financing that slip through. Make sure you note every single number and GET IT SIGNED by JOHN or it does not matter what you have. There are multiple other home retailers who are honest and treat you with the respect you deserve. Do not shop here- RUN away as FAST as you can!"

"No going to lie the reviews scared us but we showed up today for a scheduled tour, was able to walk around and look at all the models on the lot by ourselves. Then Caroline sat down with us and answered every single question we had plus more. Plus she was the sweetest, most inviting sales person we’ve ever met who wasn’t pushy and we can’t wait to work more with her and Clayton homes!
