"In July of 2022, my family moved from Auburn, AL to northern VA. Just about everything that could go wrong, did—but the hour or so that I spent with Lee Maples, owner of this U-Haul dealer location, was truly a bright spot. Two days prior to my visit here, U-Haul had sent us an hour and 10 minutes away to pick up the 26” truck I’d rented over a month in advance. On day 2 of trying to pack it up, we could tell we needed more space, so we decided that I’d pull a trailer behind our 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, which had a tow kit already installed—or so I thought. I was grateful that my last-minute reservation sent me only 30 minutes away this time. Mr. Lee Maples, who owns the Maples Flowers & Designs and Fairfax Village Antique Market that also rents out U-Haul equipment, had me checked out and ready to hitch up within minutes of my arrival, when to our dismay, he discovered that my car didn’t have any place to plug in the brake lights for the trailer. He immediately made numerous phone calls to find out what he could do. He even researched online and found videos explaining the issue with my particular make/model/year and discovered that it was no easy task to install the electrical kit needed. After much ado, it turned out that only some U-Haul locations (the one in Auburn, for example) could install the kit that was missing, but it requires a reservation and dropping your car off for about 6 hours. That was impossible in my current situation, so Mr. Maples, who is honestly one of the nicest people I’ve ever met—he even gave me a free Sparking Ice—unhitched my car and started the refund process, which is usually not possible once equipment has been “deployed,” but he found out how to get it done without making me call the company (and spend even more time on hold). In other words, this wonderful man (a former HS drama teacher who is a pleasure to converse with) actually went about $2 in debt giving me the best customer service I’ve had in a very long while, and since I’ve moved many states away, I’d like to pay him back by encouraging everyone to (1) rent your U-Haul equipment from his location if possible, (2) buy flower arrangements from his shop if you live nearby (or not), and (3) come check out his antique shop—you might just find a special treasure or get to meet a really great man who deserves lots of blessings! (P.S. Your purchases would help him recover from the recent flood clean-up that his business insurance wouldn’t pay for—shame on them!)"
