"INCREDIBLE burying ground. Resting place for Richard Mather, Puritan divine and patriarch of the Mather family. Richard was the co-author of the Bay Psalm Book, the first book published in the Colonies (1640). The first printer in the Colonies, John Foster, is also buried here... he printed the first image in British Colonial America, from a woodcut engraving of Richard Mather. He also printed the first map in the Colonies. Lastly, William Stoughton is also buried here... he's the only judge from the Salem witchcraft trials who didn't repent from his error. Stoughton allowed the presentation of "spectral" evidence in court during the trials... meaning, visions and dreams could be used as evidence."
"Dorchester North burying Place 1630 to 1912, History is here,"
"Dorchester North Burying Ground is one of the hidden gems of burial grounds in the Boston area . People flock to the other more famous burial grounds like the Central Burial Ground, the Granary, Copp's HIll and King's Chapel in downtown Boston, but I think that Dorchester North has just as many beautifully carved stones, and it is open to the public. It is a huge cemetery and there is hardly ever anyone there. You can take your time to see and photograph some of the best carved grave stones in New England. If you are into well preserved early American grave stones-especially the ones carved before 1800, then Dorchester North is a must see destination."
"Its a historical site of fallen soldiers from various important American wars, that is very underappreciated."
"This 17th c. burying ground is located in Upham's Corner, Dorchester MA at the intersection of Stoughton Street and Columbia Road and is a very historic place in Boston."
