"Visit this place on a Monday, expecting something like in NY. What disappointment, weird people walking the streets, local shops are expensive and dirty, patrons are mean and racist if you don't look Asian, no public bathrooms anywhere. Streets are dirty, smelly and not kept just like any other street in Boston. Do not recommend, nor will be back. Just take you pic at the gate and GO!"
"Gorgeous gate. Right near the Tiananmen Square memorial, and part of this gorgeous greenway with flowers and a mini waterfall and a playground and picnic area. Many shops here are cash only. A kind gentleman saw me trying to buy mochi with a credit card, and bought it for me. Very kind. I also saw a group of older Asian men and women gathering brooms and dish pans and picking up trash. One of them said “Let’s go!” As he handed the brooms out with a smile. Love the community feel here. The park is a work of art, and there are words written in multiple languages, including braille, on the playground steps. There’s a slide too but kids were on it and I didn’t want to take pictures of peoples kids."
"The area is fairly nice but the park and area around the gate was not as clean as the rest of downtown Boston. We explored the streets and overall enjoyed ourselves! Would have loved it more if we would have used all local guide."
"Boston's Chinatown Gate, also known as the China Trade Gate, is a vibrant landmark that instantly transports you to another world. Standing proudly on Beach St., this ornately decorated archway, built in the traditional Chinese paifang style, marks the entrance to the neighborhood. Towering over pedestrians, the gate boasts intricate details like soaring arches, elegant calligraphy, and two imposing stone lion guardians. It's a fantastic spot for capturing memorable photos, and no wonder it's a popular stop for visitors. While the presence of smokers might be a slight drawback, especially with children, the overall experience is still positive. During the summer months, the open space around the gate becomes a lively spot for families to relax and soak in the neighborhood's atmosphere. Overall, the Chinatown Gate is a must-see for anyone exploring Boston's vibrant Chinatown. It's a beautiful introduction to the rich cultural heritage of the neighborhood and a fantastic starting point for your exploration."
