Since our founding in 1946, the SBA has been dedicated to protecting and enhancing the environmental, recreational, and aesthetic values of this cherished region.

Kwuniikwat Island, along with Bullard Woods, is open to the public and offers a tranquil escape into nature. Visitors can explore well-maintained trails, enjoy scenic picnic areas, and take in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. Our efforts include regular maintenance, improved signage, and the addition of amenities like benches and docks to make your visit more enjoyable.

The SBA actively collaborates with the Town of Stockbridge on various conservation projects. We are engaged in initiatives such as invasive species removal, including water chestnut management, and support the town's zebra mussel control efforts. Additionally, we contribute to the operation of the boat wash station and have funded the town's weed harvesters to protect the health of the Stockbridge Bowl.

Beyond maintaining Kwuniikwat Island, we are expanding our conservation projects in Bullard Woods. This includes protecting old growth trees, replanting meadows with pollinator-friendly species, and removing invasive plants. Our commitment to environmental stewardship is further demonstrated by our collaboration with local commissions to protect hemlocks from the woolly adelgid and our efforts to treat diseased trees.
