About the Business
Welcome to the George Nye, Jr. Library, a cornerstone of the Lakewood community since its opening on February 22, 1973. Located at 6600 Del Amo Boulevard, Lakewood, California, our library serves the eastern area of the city, including eight elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Named in honor of Lakewood Mayor George H. Nye, Jr., who passed away while in office in 1971, the library is committed to fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning.
The library is supported by the dedicated Friends of Lakewood Libraries, a volunteer-run organization established in 1972. This group actively contributes to the library's success through events, fundraising, and community engagement, enhancing the services we offer to our patrons.
At George Nye, Jr. Library, we provide a wide range of resources and services to meet the diverse needs of our community. From traditional book lending to modern digital offerings, patrons can access eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, music, and movies with their LA County Library card. Our library also features a Homework Center equipped with advanced resources and technology to support students' educational needs.
We invite you to participate in our exciting events, such as the annual Bookmark Contest for young artists, and the One Book, One County celebration. Additionally, our Consumer Health Information Program and Family Place Library initiative offer invaluable resources and support for health and early childhood development.
