Welcome to Ellemercito Academy, an innovative secondary school located at 10544 Downey Avenue, Downey, California. Founded in 2021, Ellemercito Academy is an independent microschool dedicated to providing a transformative, real-world education through a unique project and place-based approach. Our mission is to nurture critical thinking, foster a growth mindset, and cultivate profound empathy in each of our students.
At Ellemercito Academy, we prioritize a highly personalized educational experience. Our small teacher-to-student ratio and individualized learning plans ensure that every student receives the attention they need to thrive. We employ a holistic, trauma-informed, and experiential learning approach, emphasizing the equal importance of academic and social-emotional development.
Our curriculum includes core subjects such as ELA, math, social studies, science, Spanish, P.E., and art, enriched with special guest instructors and professionals. We integrate LAUSD curriculum with a variety of supplementary materials, including STEAM projects and guest speakers, to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. Our hybrid model combines the best research-based technological practices with a strong appreciation for tangible books and analog learning methods.
Classes run from 8:15 am to 2:15 pm Monday through Wednesday, with an option for blended learning from home on Thursdays. Fridays are dedicated to adventuring, family time, or passion projects, allowing students to explore their interests and develop new skills.
Ellemercito Academy is committed to making microschooling accessible and equitable, offering a sliding scale tuition option based on income. While scholarships are limited, we strive to accommodate all students who wish to join our community.
