About the Business

Wiseburn Library

Welcome to Wiseburn Library, a cornerstone of the Hawthorne community located at 5335 West 135th Street, Hawthorne, California. Our library is a proud part of the Los Angeles County Library system, offering a diverse range of services and resources to inspire and educate visitors of all ages.

Wiseburn Library's history is deeply rooted in community advocacy, dating back to 1952 when the Wiseburn Coordinating Council successfully secured mobile library services. This effort led to the establishment of a permanent library facility in 1956, thanks to the tireless work of local residents and support from Los Angeles County officials. Today, the Wiseburn School District owns the building, leasing it to the County of Los Angeles Public Library, ensuring continued access to invaluable resources.

Our library is supported by the Friends of the Hawthorne and Wiseburn Libraries, a dedicated volunteer-run organization that enhances library services and events. We invite young artists to participate in the LA County Library's 45th Annual Bookmark Contest and encourage everyone to engage in our monthly events, including the One Book, One County Author Talk and Celebration.

At Wiseburn Library, you can check out a Kindle Paperwhite pre-loaded with expertly selected titles, or use our kiosk to borrow a laptop for in-library use. With your LA County Library card, enjoy free access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, music, and movies. Our Consumer Health Information Program provides reliable health resources, and our 48 Homework Centers offer enhanced educational support for students.

We are also proud to be a Family Place Library, focusing on early childhood development, parent education, and community support. Explore our Citizenship-in-a-Bag toolkits and contribute to Catalina PhotoShare, a community history project.

Visit Wiseburn Library to explore our resources, participate in enriching programs, and become part of a vibrant community dedicated to learning and growth.

"WiFi, free printing and copies (limited but enough for personal use), books, newspapers, magazines, miscellaneous info, usually quiet"

"Worst library EVER. Full of SCREAMING kids. I went here to find a quiet place to study (I am a college student) but it would have been quieter on some playground. Literally shrieking obnoxious horrible kids. I will never come back here."

"This library has lots of great & engaging activities for young children. However, as it's located right next to a middle school it's overrun by pre-/teenagers right after school. They're typical teenagers: loud, boisterous, running all over the place & did I mention loud? Nbd, except it's a library, not a park, so not the correct behavior for a library & thus not modeling appropriate behavior for young kids. The young kids were so confused by the librarians telling them not to throw the soft toys in the play area, but not regulating the teens' rambunctious & frankly disturbing behavior. Once the activity started they were able to engage 2 of my kids (9 & 5) but not my 10y/o who was captivated by the MSers. I've attended events there before, but it must've been during the summer or when the MS was on break because I definitely don't remember such a hectic & unpleasant experience. I'd recommend this library during the school hours or late evening, but definitely not between 2-5p M-F, unless you don't mind a lot of teens."

"My local library, live it, just wish we had more square footage to serve the 3000 students that visit it during the academic year. The staff are so patient with students (who are loud) as well as patrons of all ages. There is a monthly book club that I haven't had a chance to attend, but it's on my list."

"Too small and I don’t like how you need keys to open the bathroom. It felt like no matter where I chose to sit I wouldn’t have the privacy I desire. There are literally only two tables for adults to share and sit. If I’m going to sit at a table I don’t want to share. I want my own table. With privacy. The layout felt intrusive."
