"Employees on roids need customer service re-training. They do run a tight ship. Hard to leave this place with wonderful bay views. Rooms are shared, and so are bathrooms. Food is pretty much par for the course in these resorts, servings are meager and you never feel full. Staying in touch is hard here, and news is usually old by the time it gets here. Check-out is a long process, almost like they hate to say goodbye."

"This place was ok. Stay was ok , had a hotplate, nice open shower and staff was very attentive. Only complaint was the lights went off at the managers or "warden" as he likes to be called request. Food was good, and the beds were cozy...rooms had a secure type of feel to it."

"I must confess the SHU at Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) is an old favourite of mine. From the moment you arrive there is a wonderful sense of peaceful tranquility; though on the day I arrived a man could be heard screaming to be executed as he could not take "another day in isolation". As usual, the staff at PBSP reacted with the utmost speed and professionalism, and ensured the troublesome "guest" was on his way to the infirmary as soon as possible to attend to his broken jaw and punctured lung (which was all done in self defence it turns out). I unpacked a few things once I had been shown to my private room, which had an en suite bathroom and 24hr room service, then joined the other guests for an organised walk around the pristine grounds. The immaculate lawn and beautiful flower arrangements added a serenity and civilised ambience to the proceedings, as did the first rate security. Guard towers containing two snipers each, several cars patrolling the perimeter, 30 foot high electrified fences topped with 4 rolls of interlaced razor wire, and 56 ultra HD cameras positioned on 360 degree swivel mountings, which are manned 24hrs a day by a specially trained team, plus a SWAT unit on permanent stand by, all created a wonderful feeling of safety and security. All of which made the stabbing that occured on my walk all the more perplexing and unexpected . Yet again, the excellent staff had the perpetrator unconcious and being carried away within seconds; though the victim still lay dying, unattended, in a pool of his own blood when we were escorted back to our room some 5 minutes later. Anyway, I shall cover the food, entertainment facilities, value for money etc...in the second part of my review."
