Welcome to Cake Bakery & Cafe, nestled in the heart of Grass Valley’s historic downtown at 131 Mill St Suite 1. We are passionate about crafting some of the most intricate, delicious, and unique pastries and desserts in Northern California. Our dedication to quality starts with using only the finest ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible, as we blend classic French baking techniques with innovative new world twists.
Our day begins bright and early at 4:00 a.m., where we bake fresh, traditional French-style baguettes alongside a variety of breads that highlight seasonal ingredients and local favorites. Under the artistic guidance of our talented baker, Debbie Jensen, we offer a delightful array of both savory and sweet desserts. Our kitchen also serves up fresh breakfast and lunch offerings daily.
At Cake Bakery & Cafe, we believe in making every guest feel like part of our family. Whether you're here to enjoy a carefully crafted espresso drink made with Wrecking Ball coffee or savor a dark roast from Taylor Lane, we aim to create a welcoming experience. "If this was just about the food this would be a 5 star review. We went in about 1:30, had one person in front of us and maybe one other visible customer at a table. After waiting forever for the one customer, the cashier told us to wait & went to talk with other staff then perform some other chores. With 3 people behind the counter we waited and waited then left, my wife saying to the cashier "we give up" & the cashier wished us a nice day. We would have ordered a pie & probably bought a cake. This is not a one off. Every time we come up from Auburn we drop by. We've learned if they have more than 3 customers waiting not to bother, it will be an impossible wait and have walked away more than purchasing. I can't imagine how much business they lose. I don't know about you, but I don't beg anyone to take my money."

"My friend and I stopped by Cake for a treat on a beautiful afternoon. After looking at the amazing display of pastries and desserts, we decided on a fabulous chocolate mousse cake and a glass of prosecco, which we enjoyed outside on the patio. The owner and the staff were all so friendly! My best friend is coming to visit this week and Cake is our first stop!"
"We had just entered the café and were deciding whether to order when a woman who we presume to be the owner approached us and greeted us warmly. She welcomed us and explained a bit about the building and the café’s offerings, saying the baguettes are made fresh daily by a French pastry chef. She was so kind both then and while taking our orders. Shortly afterward, she came over to our table and gave us a free baguette and some butter to go with it. We felt very welcomed. Great service and great coffee, and the baguette was incredible!"
