San Lorenzo River Railroad Bridge
Welcome to the San Lorenzo River Railroad Bridge, a historical landmark nestled on the Santa Cruz Riverwalk in Santa Cruz, California. Positioned at the eastern edge of the Santa Cruz Main Beach, this iconic bridge stands as a testament to human ingenuity and perseverance in the face of nature's challenges.
Originally constructed by the Santa Cruz Railroad in 1875, the bridge was a monumental feat, overcoming financial and geographical obstacles. Spanning approximately 600 feet, the initial structure included a trestle viaduct and a wooden double-intersecting Warren truss span. Despite its promising beginnings, the bridge faced numerous challenges, from harsh winters to financial setbacks, leading to multiple reconstructions and reinforcements over the decades.
In 1905, the Southern Pacific Railroad completed a modern steel bridge to replace the original structure, ensuring its resilience and functionality. This new bridge, designated as Bridge #119.67, embodies the rich history of the Santa Cruz area and the evolution of railroad engineering.
Today, the San Lorenzo River Railroad Bridge is not only a vital part of Santa Cruz's transportation history but also a popular photography subject. It has even made appearances in films, including the 1987 classic "The Lost Boys," further cementing its status as a local icon.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply enjoying a stroll along the Santa Cruz Riverwalk, the San Lorenzo River Railroad Bridge invites you to explore its storied past and admire its enduring presence in the heart of Santa Cruz.

Reviews
"Cool railroad bridge at the santa cruz beach boardwalk, listed as a filming location for the lost boys movie by the city / county of Santa Cruz, but not sure if it is the actual bridge from the movie, still a pretty cool old bridge though."
"Just recently, Adam the Woo on YouTube just released a video proving that this is not the Lost Boys Bridge and that the real bridge is located on Iron Horse Trail in Santa Clarita California right by Six Flags Magic Mountain. Look it up on YouTube. trust me, I was disappointed to learn this as well . .debunked!"
"It's old, and cool, and it's the Lost Boys bridge!! Beautiful picture opportunities and an adventurous walk across if so desired!!"
"This is an embarrasment of a pedestrian bridge. The rail should be ripped out and use the full width of the bridge to safely allow people to walk to Seabright and for bikes to not have to detour onto narrow roads. The county has had many years to replace this ineffective "temporary" design, but instead they pat themselves on the back for a terrible use of abandoned rail infrastructure."
"Cool bridge to walk across!"
