About the Business

Welcome to Lone Tree, an enchanting gateway to The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, located at Aptos Creek Fire Road, Aptos, California. Nestled just four miles north of Aptos, this park offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby towns and beaches along Highway 1 near Santa Cruz. Immerse yourself in the lush beauty of second- and third-growth redwoods that stretch from sea level to the dramatic coastal mountains.

Visitors can enjoy 30 miles of trails ideal for hiking, jogging, or biking through a rugged semi-wilderness landscape. The park is a testament to nature’s resilience, with its redwood forest gradually healing since the logging era ended in 1923. Today, The Forest of Nisene Marks stands as a monument to regeneration, honoring its namesake, Nisene Marks, whose family generously donated the land to the state in 1963.

For those looking to explore, please note that a forest health and fuel reduction project is scheduled from mid-July 2024 through December 2024. This project aims to enhance forest health, improve emergency access during wildfires, and prepare the area for prescribed fire, thus promoting biodiversity. During this period, some trails and roads may be temporarily closed for safety, with project staff available to guide visitors.

Lone Tree invites you to partake in our guided hikes and public programs. Check out our Parks Events page to make reservations. Please remember that the park is "Crumb Clean" to protect the endangered marbled murrelet bird species that nest here. Watch our informative video available in both English and Spanish to learn how you can help preserve their habitat.

While exploring, please adhere to the park's guidelines: bicycles and dogs are allowed only on designated trails, and horses have limited access. Note that camping and fires are not permitted in the park. Join our Nisene Marks Volunteer Trail Crew to contribute to the park's upkeep and connect with fellow nature enthusiasts.

Stay informed about park updates and events by joining our mailing list. Discover more about the preservation efforts of Save the Redwoods League, which has protected over 150,000 acres in California's redwood parks.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lone Tree and sharing the timeless beauty of The Forest of Nisene Marks with you.
