"I didn't do the Hatton Loop (0.5 miles easy) since I was looking for a longer trail run. Instead, the park ranger at the Hiouchi Visitor Center recommended that I start here (Hatton Trailhead) and hike to the Hiuochi Trailhead. This out-and-back route followed above the road, back toward the visitor center. It's about 2 miles each way, so 4 miles total of moderate hiking. Once you get to Hiouchi Trailhead you have the option to go back the way you came or double down and do the Hiouchi Trial (out-and-back 2mi each way). If you link Hatton and Hioutchi together you get a really nice 8 mile out-and-back where you can stop for a break on the less busy west bank of the Smith River. My only complaint with this Hatton out-and-back to Hiouchi is that you can hear the road noise the entire way, although I did the hike on a Sunday, so it probably would be quiet on a weekday. Also the trails aren't really marked and there is no service, so download offline maps if your sense of direction is not great; although there's really only two or three spots where you could take the wrong turn."
