San Simeon Creek Campground

"Beach is walking distance to the campground. Great family atmosphere! The location of the campground is right by the freeway, so if you’re looking for solitude, this is not it. Also the sites are on the smaller side with NO privacy. Theres a select few campsites that have little privacy but for the most part you’ll be very cozy with your neighbors. We decided not to bring our dogs due to previous comments about ticks in the area and they were right. There are ticks in the campground, surrounding trails and beaches. We pulled several ticks off of us during our stay. The ticks in this area also carry Lyme disease so beware. Lastly the bathroom situation..it was awful. No seat covers, no toilet paper, no soap. Extremely dirty. We didn’t utilize the showers but they didn’t look good."

"The rangers and camp hosts were friendly and helpful. The facilities including the restrooms were maintained quite well and although some showers were closed there were others opened up at no cost. Firewood was available for purchase for a time in the late afternoon. The site is close to a beach you can walk to under the highway. Unfortunately it is so close the road noise is unavoidable. Additionally, not everyone tries to keep the noise down and the language appropriate and at one point a verbal argument broke out among several campers in the middle of the night. Overall it was a decent site for camping."

"Close to the ocean but the campground is located really close to the highway #1 so you need to expect constant road noise, especially when you stay for just one or two nights. Then you're getting the worst site just next to the busy road. The upper parts are more quiet."

"Good during weekdays, but on weekends it’s crowded, trashed, and poorly kept. I doubt the max of 8 people per site was checked. The creek does not reach the ocean all year, so it blocks the path to the beach. The walk to the beach may include walking a lengthy boardwalk or a shorter but dangerous walk across busy Highway 1. We rarely saw ranger patrols. We had to ask staff 3 times to have neighbors turn down loud music with profanity. Several large groups came in on the weekend and trashed the bathrooms, used all the toilet paper, filled the dumpsters to overflowing, and clogged the drains."

"I had a great time walking around it's such a beautifull area & so close to the beach!!! The sites are very close to each other & the bathroom lights are very bright at night so you're safe. Absolutely no cell service but an enjoyable experience to say the least."
