As a local government office, we facilitate the hiring process for various positions across county departments, towns, villages, school districts, the City of Little Falls, and Herkimer County Community College (excluding educational positions).

Employment Categories:

- Exempt Positions: Employers determine qualifications and select candidates, similar to private industry practices.

- Non-Competitive Positions: Applicants must meet specific education and experience requirements, and selection is made from qualified candidates.

- Labor Positions: No specific requirements; employers have the discretion to select any candidate.

Application Process:

To apply for tested or non-tested positions, candidates must complete the application form available on our website or at our office. Please note that only money orders payable to HERKIMER COUNTY PERSONNEL or exact cash (if filing in person) are accepted for application fees. Personal checks are not accepted. The application fee is non-refundable, even in cases of disqualification or failure to attend a scheduled exam.

Fee Information:

- $25.00 for uniformed protective service exams (police, fire, corrections)

- Fee waivers are available for eligible applicants, including those who are unemployed and primary household providers, or those receiving certain benefits. Verification is required.

Test Preparation:

Test Guides from the New York State Department of Civil Service are available to help candidates prepare for exams. These guides detail the test format, subject areas, and provide sample questions with solutions. Guides can be downloaded from [New York State Department of Civil Service's website](https://www.cs.ny.gov/testing/testguides.cfm) 60 days before the exam date.
