About the Business

Oneida County Stop DWI

Welcome to the Oneida County Stop DWI Program

Located at 200 Base Road, Oriskany, New York, the Oneida County Stop DWI Program is a dedicated local government office committed to reducing incidents of impaired driving. Established as part of New York State's pioneering STOP-DWI initiative—the nation's first and only self-sustaining program of its kind—our mission is to enhance roadway safety through education, enforcement, and community involvement.

Our program is actively engaged in raising awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving, especially during high-risk times such as "Blackout Wednesday" or "Drunksgiving," the day before Thanksgiving. In collaboration with neighboring counties, we participate in events like the Utica Comets hockey games, where we engage fans with educational activities and giveaways to promote sober driving. These efforts include interactive experiences like the driving simulator provided by Alliance, which allows participants to understand the impairment effects of alcohol through virtual reality.

We honor the memory of individuals like Kane Buss, a 2013 Oneida High School graduate tragically killed by a drunk driver, through our community events and public service announcements. We also organize annual events such as the STOP DWI High School Baseball Classic to involve young athletes in our mission, emphasizing the importance of responsible choices behind the wheel.

Our team, including Oneida County Probation Director Dave Tomidy, works tirelessly to ensure our community is informed and prepared. We encourage everyone to "Have A Plan" and secure a safe ride home. Join us in our efforts to make Oneida County a safer place for all. For more information about our initiatives or to get involved, please contact us or visit our website. Together, we can prevent impaired driving and save lives.
