Welcome to Mount Richmond Cemetery, a serene and historic resting place located at 420 Clarke Avenue, Staten Island, New York. Established in 1909, Mount Richmond Cemetery has served as the primary burial ground for the Hebrew Free Burial Association (HFBA), dedicated to providing dignified burials for Jewish individuals in need.
Nestled in the tranquil landscape of Staten Island, Mount Richmond Cemetery offers a peaceful and respectful environment for visitors to honor and remember their loved ones. The cemetery's rich history is a testament to the community's commitment to honoring Jewish traditions and supporting those in need.
Visitors can easily access Mount Richmond Cemetery by following these directions: From the FDR Drive or West Side Highway, take the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel towards the Verrazano Bridge, then continue on the I-278 West Expressway towards New Jersey. Exit at Richmond Road, make a left, and continue for 3 miles. At the fork, bear left onto Amboy Road, and after 1 mile, turn right onto Clarke Avenue. The cemetery will be on your left.
For those using public transportation, take the Staten Island Ferry, followed by the S74 bus to St. Patricks Place, and walk 2 blocks to Clarke Avenue. Alternatively, several bus routes from Brooklyn connect to the S53 bus, which leads to Richmond Road and Narrows Road North, where you can switch to the S74 bus.
Mount Richmond Cemetery is not only a place of rest but also a reflection of HFBA's enduring mission to provide respectful and caring burial services. "Greedy and unethical to be Jewish these days, because money matters more then your existence as it seems . They made all these rules in that cemetery and apparently extra money milking goes with it. What us the unwealthy Jews supposed to do? I was getting my hopes up and wanting to purchase a headstone for my mother. My sister already paid them for the spot in the amount of $2,000. The woman over the phone was rude , and she said had to pay additional fees . EXTRA unpaid dues owed . close to 3k? maintenance , foundation fees , rabbi saying a prayer ??????? I asked him, he said he has nothin to do with this. im not gonna Rest In Peace until I will I get this massage across. 5 five shame on you. NPR news whom ever.. why the call it even free Hebrew burial association, when they don't look out for there own ppl. damn shame"
"My mother in law is resting here. When she passed she left no money and had no funeral plans. The Hebrew Free Burial Society took care of everything in exchange for a very reasonable donation from us. The donation was less than a quarter of what a private funeral would have set us back. The service was basic but kosher and a minyan was provided for a modest fee. Overall the Society provides a valuable service to the Jewish community and the donations they require are tailored to the means of the families. Those that complain are insufferable tightwads."
"Very clean and peaceful. My grandmother is resting here, and the monument is very beautiful as well"
"HORRIBLE people, just horrible. I've got several family members here, for years. For years, I have had nothing but problems with the inefficiency, lies, horrible service, every single staff member is horrible and RUDE, they are constantly blaming other companies for their problems. If you can avoid this cemetery, please do. Save yourselves the headache and heartache. The problems became so much worse after a transfer in leadership several years ago.. the new rabbi is abysmal. Just awful. The rules of the cemetery are so unfriendly. It's almost as if they don't want any more new clients. Honestly, this place should be investigated, along with every single person who works there."
"This is not free. They are partners with a funeral home that will force payment or tell you to take a hike. The staff is unprofessional and of course very very concerned about the money. The grounds are not kept up either. The rabbi was the only nice person in the whole experience"
