Fridman Gallery

Fridman Gallery: A Hub of Contemporary Art Innovation

Nestled in the vibrant Lower East Side of Manhattan, Fridman Gallery stands as a beacon for contemporary art enthusiasts and cultural explorers alike. Established in 2013 and located at 169 Bowery, New York, this distinguished art gallery is renowned for its dedication to championing a diverse array of international contemporary artists who push the boundaries across various media.

Fridman Gallery is celebrated for its bold and critically acclaimed exhibitions, having introduced New York to the groundbreaking solo shows of artists like Nate Lewis, Nina Katchadourian, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, and Summer Wheat. The gallery also played a pivotal role in elevating the works of Dindga McCannon and Milford Graves, ensuring their rightful place in the art-historical canon after years of neglect by the mainstream art world. In 2022, the gallery's impactful exhibition, "Women at War," showcased the poignant responses of 12 Ukrainian women artists to the ongoing war, touring prestigious university museums across the U.S. and Canada.

Looking ahead to 2025, Fridman Gallery is set to present solo exhibitions by both emerging talents such as Azuki Furuya and Will Maxen, and established artists like Remy Jungerman and Athena LaTocha. The gallery's commitment to innovation extends beyond its walls as it actively participates in leading international art fairs, including Art Basel Miami Beach, the Armory Show, Art Cologne, and Paris Photo.

In addition to its visual art exhibitions, Fridman Gallery is recognized for its ambitious performance program, offering a full schedule of experimental performance art. The annual New Ear Festival is a hallmark event, curating a unique blend of music and performance to encourage cross-pollination among diverse audiences. In 2016, the gallery paid homage to the iconic "9 Evenings of Theater and Engineering" with "9e 50," featuring performances by luminaries such as Alvin Lucier, Pauline Olivieros, and Simon Forti. The gallery also serves as the home for choreographer Abigail Levine's "Restagings" (2017–2024), a durational, multi-part series that reimagines minimalist and conceptual artworks as dynamic performances.

Fridman Gallery's unwavering commitment to pushing artistic boundaries and fostering dialogue makes it a vital contributor to New York City's dynamic art scene. It is a place where culture and exploration thrive, offering an ever-evolving landscape of contemporary art for all to experience and enjoy.

"I was New York Wednesday Sept 11th to see my friends solo exhibit "In Plain Sight" @fridmangallery. So awesome and well displayed. The Canvas art was suspended from the ceiling. There was a moving playing on the back wall of succesfull black women from the 1900"s, just incredible. The artist name is Dindga McCannon, @didnga, she is a mixed media artist that works in fabric, making quilts, on canvas using fabric jewels and paint, she hand makes clothing and paints murals. Everything about this exhibit screamed Dindga's vision. It's a must see."
