About the Business

Pratt Manhattan Gallery

Welcome to Pratt Manhattan Gallery, a vibrant cultural hub located at 144 West 14th Street in the heart of Manhattan, New York. As an integral part of Pratt Institute, our gallery is dedicated to supporting the educational mission of the institution by showcasing exhibitions that embody the interdisciplinary, research-driven, and inquiry-based education that prepares Pratt students for success in creative and professional fields.

Our gallery features a dynamic range of exhibitions that explore contemporary themes and innovative practices across various art forms. From photography and painting to virtual reality and fashion, our curated shows highlight the work of talented artists, including Pratt alumni, and engage with critical issues such as environmental challenges, the evolution of photographic representation, and the intersections of technology and art.

Current and upcoming exhibitions include "To Live in the Imagination," a conversation between alumni and current students of Pratt's Photography MFA program, and "The Apex Is Nothing," which draws inspiration from Alfred Jensen's exploration of abstract forms and diverse systems of thought. Additionally, "The New Village: Ten Years of New York Fashion" examines the experimental fashion scene in New York over the past decade.

Pratt Manhattan Gallery is proud to collaborate with esteemed curators and institutions to present thought-provoking exhibitions that invite visitors to explore the complex relationships between art, culture, and society. Our gallery also hosts engaging events, such as panel discussions and public receptions, to foster dialogue and community engagement.

Please note that due to the scheduled G Train Disruption from August 12 to September 3, we recommend finding alternate routes to visit the gallery. We are closed on major holidays, including Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

For more information about our exhibitions, events, or visiting the gallery, please contact us at 212.647.7778 or exhibits@pratt.edu. We look forward to welcoming you to Pratt Manhattan Gallery, where art and education intersect to inspire and challenge.

"If you're a fan of maps, New York, and/or unusual visual expressions of collected data, RUN, don't walk, to this hidden gem of a gallery on W.14th St. The exhibit closes on November 15th, and is not to be missed! I've posted some photos I took onsite, but they are but a pale comparison to the real thing. The idea behind this exhibit, "You Are Here NYC: Art, Information, and Mapping," is to take dry-as-dust statistics and turn them into visual representation---and the artists do a bang-up job. For example: How about taking the bacterial counts collected on all subway lines and transform them into a rainbow-hued overlay on an NYC map? You can sit at their computer and type in "streptococcus," for example, and the computer map lights up with all the locations in which this bacteria was found---in a lovely hue indicating its prevalence in an area. Another computer does the same for NYC's street trees--select a tree name, and the map lights up in thousands of colored dots indicating where that tree is found--right down to borough and block! Other fascinating items: two maps, both tracking Tweets originating in the five boroughs during a certain time period, one labeled, "Hate," and one, "Love;" a visual and auditory representation of the classic NYC subway map; a computer graphic illustration of the layout of all NYC streets (hint: it looks more like a hairy ink drawing!); and everyday city sounds fossilized into a wood sculpture. And there's more....be prepared to be mesmerized!"
