"I just had the worst experience I’ve ever had at a library because of the staff, not only the staff but it was specifically the Director and the woman’s in charge of the kids programs. I had one pice of feed back for the kids programs they have in the morning. I asked to speak to Lupita the lady that is in charge of such. Her reaction was completely defensive and argumentative from the jump which was so unnecessary. Since she wasn’t very receptive I thought maybe the director would be. BIG MISTAKE. She was even worse, so at one point it was the two of them arguing at me telling me why I’m basically wrong for giving this feedback which is and insane reaction. But before doing so they proceeded to tell me that we are not on the list of the program and that if we are not sign up we are not allowed to attend as if my 6 month old was trying to get into the most coveted club in NY. Side note: we did register and I will bring a printed confirmation next time, the funny part is that they did not ask anyone else to double check if they were on the list. Just us, I wonder why that would be. Extra side note: the room was very empty and there was only a few kids in a very large room. I would love to find out if there is anyone to talk to that’s is above the director about this behavior but I doubt that there is anyone in charge of her and if they haired her I doubt that they are anymore sensible. I have another small feedback for the staff of this library, when someone give you feedback this is what you do: •You pay attention to what they are saying so they feel heard. •You nod your head with a warm smile on your face. •When the person is done talking you say “Thank you for your feedback, we will look into it.” •The end. Extra tip: after you say that and walk away from a professional interaction with the patron of your library you can then decide if you want to something about it or not. And for people planing a visit to this library do not dare to talk to the staff about anything unless you are going to gloat about it or is very necessary."
"I recently visited the Closter Library on Tuesday, May 14, with the intention of returning long-overdue books that my 4-year old daughter and I had borrowed from various Bergen County libraries. We really enjoy exploring new libraries whenever we get a free time. On Thursday, May 16, however, I received an unexpected phone call from the Demarest Library - two days after returning the books. They informed me that one of the books I had returned and transferred over had been received in a moldy and wet condition. Consequently, I was informed that I would be held responsible and required to pay for it. Given that it had rained incessantly between my visit to the Closter Library and the notice from Demarest, it was apparent to me that the condition of the book was likely due to a delivery issue rather than mishandling on my part. When I reached out to the Closter Library to explain the situation, I was directed to the director, who greeted me with accusations rather than assistance. The director's response was dismissive and accusatory. They questioned why I hadn't informed them of the book's condition upon return and even raised unrelated issues about my library account. While I understand the importance of accountability, the tone and manner in which I was addressed were unwarranted and left me feeling unheard and frustrated. Life's demands often take precedence over administrative tasks like updating addresses on library cards, and it certainly wasn't my intention to neglect such responsibilities. Furthermore, I had minimal interaction with the book in question, as it was stored in the same manner as the others during its time in my possession. While I am willing to accept responsibility for the damaged book and cover the associated costs, the lack of empathy and professionalism displayed by the Closter Library's staff leaves much to be desired. As a result, I cannot in good conscience recommend this library to others. In conclusion, my experience at the Closter Library was marred by poor communication, unfounded accusations, and a lack of understanding. I hope that my feedback serves as an opportunity for the library to reassess its customer service practices and strive for improvement in the future."
"Ventured into Closter Public Library recently and was thoroughly charmed. Their selection of the latest children's books is second to none. A veritable wonderland for young readers and the young at heart. Kudos to the staff for maintaining such a treasure trove!"
"So clean, bright, and quiet. I love studying at this library. However, I do wish their hours were longer (especially on the 9-5 days)."
"Been a long time Closter resident and this library is like our second home. My kids grew up here, enjoying the toddler programs and most importantly, loving to read. They always have a great selection of new books displayed for easy grabs. Plenty of work space with quiet areas to focus. Most of the librarians are super sweet. Ruth, the Director is very professional and helpful. The children's program list is extensive and usually a hit with our kids. Hopefully they bring in-person programs back soon bc we really them and all the more reasons to visit the library."
