Dr. Avvento's journey in medicine began with a degree from the University of Rome in 1981. He completed his residency at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, where he developed a profound interest in oncology, inspired by the challenges and opportunities to innovate in patient care. His commitment to revolutionizing cancer treatment led him to further specialize through a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Stony Brook University.

Since founding his private practice in Riverhead, Dr. Avvento has grown his team from a small staff of three to a dedicated group of forty-five oncology professionals, all committed to providing convenient and comfortable care for patients on the East End of Long Island. His pioneering efforts in the region have set new standards for patient care.

In addition to his practice, Dr. Avvento has served as the Medical Director of East End Hospice in Westhampton, NY since 1990 and has held key positions at Peconic Bay Medical Center and Southampton Hospital. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Palliative Care Fellowship at Southampton Hospital and has contributed to the certification of numerous healthcare professionals in palliative care.

Dr. Avvento's excellence has been recognized with numerous accolades, including being named among the “Best Doctors on Long Island” by Newsday and “Best Doctors” by New York Magazine. His dedication to patient-centered care has earned him the Patients' Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Recognition multiple times.

"The Riverhead facility is so professional and welcoming as well. , I have had many phlebotomies since I was diagnosed years ago and nothing compares to the care and impeccable treatment I have received here. The place is luminous and immaculate.The nurses are skilled and friendly, there is absolutely no discomfort during the treatment and the environment generates relaxation and well being .Also Dr Avvento’s P.A has always been present, attentive, very clear in her explanations and a keen listener.
