"I had braces for a couple years as a teenager from here. My teeth were perfect at the end. It took longer than I was told, but whatever. That’s normal. Giving three stars because they’re nice and replaced a retainer that split on me and the office is exceptionally nice. What upset me was that when I was 17 and got my braces off they told me that I had to wear my retainers for four years until the jaw set or whatever. I was *super* diligent about it. Like. So, so, so on top of it, despite hating the retainers. I literally wrote down what they told me. I kept a calendar notification to the day. So I stopped wearing my retainers after four years. They started to shift out of place without my noticing. By then my retainers didn’t fit anymore. I called to inquire about it. They said it would be $400 to come in and that they always told patients that they had to wear retainers indefinitely (not true. I cannot emphasize enough how absurdly responsible of a kid I was and how seriously I took the instructions I was given). Been trying to afford adult braces for a couple years, can’t do it. Might not be able to ever. Set backs. My teeth are getting more out of place. They’re actually worse than before I got braces. I hate looking in the mirror and seeing the cross bite on my lower teeth that appears to be getting worse. I never had a cross bite before. Even if they’d said “hey after four years you can wear them at night most nights” or something it would have saved me a lot of psychological distress and insecurity and money if I can ever manage to get a second round. Reviewing because I’m still angry when I think about the person on the phone gaslighting me (to be fair, she probably didn’t know) with the whole “we’ve never told patients four years”). I asked some of my friends about this and one of them said they also were given incorrect retainer information/expectations and that she’ll have to get a second round of braces. Oh well. So here’s a nine year update I guess."
