Welcome to Calandra's Bakery: A Tradition of Excellence
Located in the heart of Newark, New Jersey, Calandra's Bakery is more than just a bakery—it's a cherished family tradition. Founded over 50 years ago by Italian immigrant Luciano Calandra and his wife Ortenza, our bakery began as a small Italian and French establishment. Through hard work and dedication, it quickly earned a reputation for producing some of the most delicious bread in the area.
Today, Calandra's Bakery has expanded into a 50,000 square foot operation that continues to uphold the values instilled by Mr. Calandra: a strong work ethic, family commitment, and exceptional customer service. Our Newark location, at 204 1st Avenue, serves as a cornerstone for our business, which now includes two additional bakeries in Fairfield and Caldwell.
We proudly deliver our freshly baked goods to over 500 supermarkets, delis, and restaurants across the tri-state area. Beyond our bakery offerings, the Calandra family has diversified into hotels, restaurants, and even produces a line of olive oil, coffee, fresh pasta, homemade sauces, and wines from our vineyard in Italy.
Despite our growth, one thing remains unchanged: our passion for creating delightful bread and bakery products. Our commitment to quality and tradition ensures that every bite is a taste of our heritage.
Visit us at our Newark location or our other bakeries in Fairfield and Caldwell. We are open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with slight variations in hours at each location. Please note that we close early on major holidays and while we strive to accommodate all dietary needs, we are not a nut or seed-free facility.

"This bakery gets zero stars. I’m a dedicate 30 years customer, I’ve been coming here since my child was five years old. I called to ask for my money back. But all they could offer me 10% off. I am an hour away. They put the cake in incorrect box too small as you can see from my pictures. This case should have been put in a larger box . I contact the manager and they did not want to budge. All they wanted to do again like I said was offering me 10% off and this is what $46 cake look like. This is unsatisfactory, especially for a loyal customer of 30 years. Shame on you Calandria bakery."

"Hard to find parking but once you do you will be glad you came. The cannoli’s were phenomenal and I am not typically a fan. The cinnamon bun was light and iced just right. The sfiogadelle (not sure how you spell it) was crunchy on the outside and creamy on inside. The custard cakes were velvety and had a nice flavor. Crust wasn’t mushy either. What a gem! I will be back."
"The mini cheesecakes are incredible! It's balanced perfectly in taste, not too sweet, not "eggy" and the texture was just right. Wifey recommended this place and man was it worth it! The varieties of pastries caters to every desire of sweets possible. The french bread was warm, soft and tasty. Definitely fresh! The staff were very kind, informative and hospitable! The space is ample and reminded me of visiting overseas a bit. Great spot for a sweet tooth and fresh bread!"
