Avis Car Rental

"This place is a fraud. I booked months in advance and prepaid. They didn’t have the car on arrival and offered an inferior car. Trying to be easy going, I said ok no problem please adjust my rate since it’s a cheaper car category. She told me that if she adjusted the rate, the price would go up. I asked her why, and she said the rates have gone up. I suggested that given that I booked in advance and they made the mistake, they should give me the same rate on the cheaper car. No dice. Now I’m paying the same price for a worse car that I wouldn’t have wanted to begin with."

"Terrible experience at this location. We booked through Costco. The pick up time was 10 am and when we reached there, there was no car available. We had to wait about 90 minutes to get a car which messed up our whole day schedule and we had to miss an important event due to this delay. The office still use the old fashioned dot matrix printers , obsolete technology which took so long in paperwork even after cars arrived. Also, we rented the car for one day but returning the car on the same day was a nightmare. Most AVIS locations were closed and those that were open, did not pick up our phones. No one picked up phones on 24 x7 lines."

The midsize car was completely dirty inside, nobody told us where to replace the car Update 6 weeks after rental: No answer to our question about 40 USD additional charge. 6 weeks after 1day rental 6 USD charged from my AMEX for etoll AVIS NYC ABSOLUTLY NO GO!"

"I've rented from Avis at multiple locations in the U.S. and had great experiences in the past. However, this time was the worst experience ever. The 31st Street location was highly unprofessional. They gave me the dirtiest car I've ever seen, which seemed to have just been returned by another customer. When I asked for a different car because it was so dirty, they acknowledged the car hadn't been cleaned due to a blocked washing station. Despite this, they couldn't provide a different car because there were "too many cars." Instead, I had to wait more than an hour for them to clean the car. Even then, it was still not up to the usual Avis standard. I understood their stress due to the small garage, and also felt really bad to see they suffered of moving and cleanning car at last minute, but after all customers shouldn't be affected by this. Eventually, they agreed to let me exchange the car at a different location (43rd Street) since the 31st Street location closed at 3 PM. After driving another half hour to this location, two hours after I first arrived at Avis, I finally got a usable car. However, I noticed that the rental start time was recorded as the time I first arrived, and they refused to adjust it. The staff's attitude was indifferent, essentially, "I can't help, not my problem." I had to call Avis customer service from the store to address the issue, and the agent on the phone agreed to adjust the rental time once I returned the car. Overall, I am totally disappointed with Avis for this experience. Not only did they waste two hours of my time, but they also made me pay for their mistake."

"This is the most unprofessional Avis I’ve ever been to. Even when you bring the car back on time, they still charge for an extra day. The security guard is overwhelmed and can’t handle the work load. If you ask him for a receipt , he will tell you to wait for the email. By the time he actually checks the car in, the 29 minute grace period is over, therefore they charge for an extra day. Most of the front desk staff are very rude and don’t want to work. Janet refused to speak with me and brushed me off."
