Avis Car Rental

"Car rentals are usually not this bad, but this was a nightmare scenario. My pregnant wife and I had a reservation, so we thought we were set. But when we showed up, they told us there were no cars left except for some EVs. Meanwhile, we saw them handing out cars to people who just walked in without a reservation! We couldn’t believe it. When we asked what was going on, they just shrugged it off and told us the EV would be fine for our trip. We didn’t have much of a choice, so we took it. This ended up being a terrible mistake.. We ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere, in a sketchy area, because the EV needed to be charged. We were stuck there for hours, with my pregnant wife stressed out and uncomfortable. I can’t believe Avis put us in that situation. It was a complete nightmare, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. If you’re thinking about renting from Avis, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else."

"Watch your back with these scammers. They charged us $45 for returning the car with more fuel than they asked for. When we picked up the car, we signed a form that said the car needed to be returned with half a tank of gas. Since it's usually a full tank, we confirmed with the agent and they said that half a tank is correct and there was no need to fill it up. So we didn't fill it all the way up, and returned with more than half a tank, and they charged us for doing what they said. We went to correct the problem by sharing the attached images of the document, the fuel gauge at drop off time (so glad I did this!) and the charge. The online portal kept erroring out with server errors. So we called customer service and they tried to deflect and tell us it had to be returned full, regardless of the documentation and what the agent told us. They insisted we could resolve this by forwarding these attachments to one email address. The email address rejected the attachments despite meeting their guidelines of size and image format. This is clearly a scam. If you must hire from these scammers, document every step of the way. Check the signatures. And if in doubt, do fill up the car. We would have gladly done it if it was asked of us, but this seems like nothing more than a scam to hit people with an extra charge amounting to a significant increase on the total rental price. It's always comforting to know we can take these receipts to the credit card company and get the charge reversed there as a last resort."

"Rent car twice from this rental. Very glad that they are open 24/7. It is the only option for the ones in Manhattan wanted to start travel early in the morning. The stuff in desk is always helpful. Recommend a reservation upfront. There are wide variety of cars, compact to suv."

"Had a reservation for 12. It was a Saturday. My reservation was confirmed. I got there at 12:30 and there was a line of about 15 people that are waiting for their cars. The reception says there’s no cars and asking people how many miles are there about to go if they could just take an electric. It was complete chaos, I waited for another 45 minutes and then I went to get a car with a different company. Mind you, I had to go to work and was almost late. This has been the worst experience I’ve ever had with a rental."

"We rented a jeep for the day in Manhattan. We are from California. We had a great experience with the staff and a few laughs!!! The best customer service ever!!! Best car rental experience ever!!! Kuddos to a great group from the young lady at the counter to the gentleman going over the jeep to returning it! Thanks for the smiles!!!"
