Our story began in 1994 in Pelham Bay, Bronx, New York, when John, a visionary entrepreneur, discovered an opportunity to purchase a bagel shop in his neighborhood. With his son Jay by his side, they embarked on a journey of passion and dedication to perfect the art of bagel making. Through rigorous experimentation and a commitment to quality, they crafted the signature Empire Bagel—a soft, fluffy delight with a moist center, crispy crust, and a unique sweetness. This meticulous process, involving long-fermented dough, water boiling, and deck baking, remains the cornerstone of our craft.
As the legacy grew, Jay expanded the Empire Bagels brand to new locations, including Putnam County and now Dobbs Ferry. "This place is so wonderful. I ordered a salad with chicken and the chicken was made to order and fresh! The staff is so nice and helpful. No miscommunication here! This is my second visit too. they were so friendly and remembered me."
"Waited for over ten minutes in an empty shop with no customers. No one acknowledged our presence or took our order. Customers walked in behind us and their order was taken ahead of ours. Still no communication from staff whatsoever. We walked out. Shame because we were excited to try the local bagel spot."
"Empire Bagel is usually a solid place to grab a bite, but my recent experiences have been less than stellar. There is a particular employee, a lady with glasses who speaks Spanish, who has consistently messed up my orders. This has happened over five times now. It seems like there might be a language barrier, as she often seems to misunderstand the directions given in English. If she is having difficulty with English, it might be better for her to have a different role or receive additional training to ensure customer orders are accurate. It's frustrating to repeatedly receive incorrect orders, and I hope the management addresses this issue soon."
"My husband got an everything Bagel and the bagel itself lacked in the everything toppings. I got a sesame bagel and didn’t have enough sesame seeds. It just had a couple of them spread out. We wish that the bagels had more of their toppings on them."
