About the Business

Rose Mountain Cottages

Rose Mountain Cottages, nestled in the heart of the central Catskills at 120 Creek Side Dr, Shandaken, NY, offers a serene escape into nature, rich with history and modern comforts. Originally built as Feitzingers Cabins in the late 1940s, this charming lodging facility has retained its traditional Bungalow Colony charm while undergoing thoughtful renovations to enhance comfort and convenience. Guests can choose from five unique cabins—Betty, Wendy, and Shelly, which are fully equipped for year-round stays with heating and insulation, as well as Georgie and Joan, available for warm-season rentals from May to October. All cabins are connected to a WiFi mesh network, ensuring guests stay connected during their retreat.

Rose Mountain Cottages warmly welcomes well-behaved pets, encouraging a pet- and pollinator-friendly environment. Guests are asked to notify the establishment in advance and ensure their pets are under control and cleaned up after. For those pets that love to snuggle, bringing your own sheets is recommended.

Spanning 62 acres of private wooded mountain terrain, the property offers ample opportunities for hiking, snowshoeing, and outdoor enjoyment. A quarter-mile stretch of private frontage along the Esopus River provides a picturesque setting with a spacious streamside dining gazebo and fire pit. An old swimming pool has been transformed into a tranquil lily pond and garden area, perfect for observing frogs and dragonflies.

The central Catskills region offers a diverse range of all-season activities, from world-class skiing, hiking, and rock-climbing to vibrant local culture featuring music, performing, and visual arts. The area is also rich in locally grown and harvested foods. Conveniently located about a 2.5-hour drive from NYC, Rose Mountain Cottages is easily accessible, with a NYC bus stop on Route 28 just a 15-minute walk away. Additionally, Ulster County Transit offers daily bus services to Woodstock and Kingston.

"This place exceeded my expectations!! The kitchen is stocked full of utensils, plates, pots, and more. Plus cleaning supplies if needed. Although there was no air conditioning, we managed to stay pretty cool during our two night stay. And being able to bring our Kiko was fantastic! I can't wait to stay here again!"

"This is my second stay at Rose Mountain Cottages, and I will certainly be back. I stayed in the Joan cabin, and it was cozy, clean, and had everything I needed, including a kitchenette with all the essentials (tea, coffee, sugar, spices, oil, cooking equipment). I stayed for a week and I left fully recharged. I loved having my morning coffee on the cabin’s porch, and reading in the gazebo by the creek. It was also close to many good hikes—a great launch pad to the rest of the Catskills. I can’t wait to return!"

"My brothers and I stayed at the Wendy cabin, the cabin had everything we needed and more . There were 7 lantern lights through out the cabin in case of power outages. We cooked our Thanksgiving turkey there. We saw plenty of wildlife ,including three all black squirrels."

"Andrew's place is a lovely, cozy nest for anyone looking to get away from the city's chaotic energy. Beautiful view from the cabin, a very nice creek for swimming about 10 minutes walking, and even some really nice restaurants within a 15-20 minute drive! The kitchen inside the cabin is fully functional and even had some staples like salt, pepper, and oil. The bathroom is also well equipped with lots of towels, with hot water available throughout. The outside area has comfortable seating spots with a wonderful view. Andrew was a very responsive host and had also provided some amazing recommendations of what to do around the location."

"Cute cottage. If you're looking to step back and "unplug" you'll love it. No TV and, although their ad states they have wifi, we really had no signal. Great getaway. Cottage stocked with almost everything you'd need, but bring flashlights!"
