Nestled just 8.5 miles northwest of Sheffield, this charming stone cabin was originally constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and has since been thoughtfully renovated in 2010 to include modern conveniences such as electricity, heating, telephone service, Direct TV, and internet access.
The cabin comfortably accommodates up to eight guests, featuring two bedrooms with queen-size beds, bunk beds, and a sofa sleeper. The fully equipped kitchen includes a refrigerator, microwave, basic cookware, utensils, and a coffee maker. Guests can enjoy the warmth of an electric fireplace and relax in the living room with a TV and DVD player. The cabin also boasts indoor plumbing with a shower and flush toilet.
Surrounded by a picturesque landscape of black cherry, beech, hemlock, oak, maple, and birch trees, Farnsworth Cabin provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities. Visitors can explore the nearby Hickory Creek Wilderness Area, fish for native brook trout in the Farnsworth Stream, or enjoy hunting on the surrounding public lands. The cabin's yard is equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, outdoor furniture, and a charcoal grill for outdoor enjoyment.
Guests are reminded to prepare for their stay by bringing their own bedding, towels, dish soap, and other essentials. While the cabin can house up to eight people, it is most comfortable for groups of four to six. Visitors should also be mindful of weather conditions, as road access may be affected during rainy seasons. Before departure, guests are required to clean the cabin and dispose of all trash.

"Really cool cabin in the middle of no where. No AC but has heat, stove, fridge, shower, hot water, all the basics. Great place to get away for a weekend. Note: there's a mile or two of gravel road with potholes - don't bring a sports car that's low to the ground. Also the lock box with the key is by the front door"
"Wifi was basically dial up and the beds sucked. Spent the weekend on the couch to save my poor back. So why the 5 star? Because it's beautiful, the cabin is cozy and the nature around you should have your attention more than your phone. Shout out to advil for my back tho"
"The last 2 years we have been taking our children fishing down there. It is a great atmosphere the kids have fun fishing. The people who run it are great. The place runs on donations to help feed the fish. A small price to to pay for my kids to have fun."
"Farnsworth Cabin was a wonderful experience, we had a blast. As long as you are aware of the "Trout Club" with trout hatchery, then you are good to go. They are right across the lane and did have people in and out. We just assumed the property line was the road, so stuck to our side and didn't get any complaints. The stream is beautiful, a lovely walkable area runs alongside most of it. There is a lake 20min North and Heart's Content Recreation Area 20min West, among other closeby attractions, making this a good launching point for multiple outings. The cabin comes pre-stocked with many amenities (dishes, TP, fans, etc.) which I underestimated. Just be sure to bring bed materials (sheets, pillows, blankets, etc.) and maybe a mattress topper as the larger bed we slept on was pretty hard. There is no AC, so prepare for that. We will definitely be back, I loved it."
