Welcome to the Panhandle Trail Entrance, your gateway to a scenic and tranquil adventure in Oakdale, Pennsylvania. As a key access point to the beautiful Panhandle Trail, our facility offers convenient parking solutions for hikers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts. All trail entrances, including Walkers Mill Entrance, Sunnyside Entrance, and Gregg Station Entrance, feature gravel parking lots to ensure easy access to the trail.

Interactive Features:

In an effort to enhance your trail experience, Girl Scout Ashley Altieri has placed 20 different plant podiums throughout the Panhandle Trail as part of her Gold Award project. Each podium features a picture of a plant or wildflower found on the trail, accompanied by interesting facts, stories, or characteristics about it. If you’re unable to locate all the podiums or would like to see their locations, you can access a digital map of the trail displaying the general vicinity of each podium. Additionally, a list of GPS coordinates is available for those who prefer to hike with their GPS devices.

Trail Information:

- The trail begins at Walkers Mill Road and extends to Sunnyside Road.

- The Washington County section of the trail is paved, offering a smoother ride for cyclists.

- Our managed section spans 4 miles within Collier Township, from the trailhead to Gregg Station.

- For those seeking to explore beyond this section, the trail continues towards Burgettstown and intersects with various amenities.

Local Amenities:

While the trail itself doesn’t feature extensive amenities, the Rennerdale Corner Store located at the corner of Sunnyside and Noblestown Road offers refreshments and is managed by us. There is potential for future maps to include local businesses such as ice cream shops, restaurants, and breweries for easy access by trail users.

Parking and Trail Access Tips:

- For those parking on McColl Rd (also known as Police Lodge Rd), the parking area is about 1000 feet on the right from the intersection with Worthington Lane.

- The trail remains largely level within Allegheny County, with some minor hills in the Washington County section.

- For an optimal experience, make sure to check out the Montour Trail maps for additional amenities and connections to the Panhandle Trail.

Visitor Guidelines:

- Dogs are welcome on the trail but must be leashed for the safety of all users. Please bring bags for cleanup.

- If you're visiting during the last weekend of August, don’t miss the Rock the Quarry event at the Walker’s Mill Trailhead.
