Reviews
"Fun fact... The Indian is portaging their canoe. Portage - To carry (a boat and or its cargo) between navigable waters. This is why it was put next to the Cuyahoga River and also where Portage Path and Portage county get their names!"
"Beautiful artwork. Interesting statue in all of the other statues I've seen in my travels across the u.s."
"The statue is right off the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath in Portage County. Very nice and wide path for hiking and biking"
"Beautiful landmark that gives us a glimpse in to the rich history of this area."
"The Indian Carrying a Canoe statue is located northeast of the Portage Path and Merriman Roads intersection. It is positioned between the Ohio Canal towpath trail to the north and a set of railroad tracks on the south. This statue depicts an Indian carrying his canoe along the eight mile long Portage Path, which connected the Lake Erie and Ohio River watersheds. This position marks the north end of the Portage Path. The sculptor was Peter Jones. The Portage Path route was marked with 50 two feet tall bronze spear points and the statue was dedicated in 2001."
