JAMES D. SOLMEN, M.D.

Dr. James D. Solmen is a distinguished board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery. With fellowship training from the prestigious Florida Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Solmen brings a wealth of expertise to his practice, focusing on a range of foot and ankle issues. His areas of concentration include fracture care, adult reconstruction (such as bunions, hammertoes, and neuromas), degenerative and post-traumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic foot conditions, neurologic disorders, and sports injuries.

A summa cum laude graduate in Zoology from Kent State University (1988), Dr. Solmen earned his medical degree magna cum laude from Ohio State University College of Medicine (1992). He completed both his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Ohio State University in 1997, followed by a specialized fellowship in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery under the guidance of Dr. Arthur Walling, Dr. Roy Sanders, and Dr. Heidi Stephens.

Dr. Solmen holds board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, and the Mahoning Valley Medical Society. Notably, he is the only fellowship-trained orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon in the Mahoning Valley.

A native of Youngstown, Dr. Solmen returned to the area to contribute to his community. He is actively involved in the education and training of residents from local orthopaedic surgery and podiatric residency programs.
